background | liquid crystal material (liquidcrystalmaterials, referred to as LCD) is a new type of high-performance special material developed in the 1970 s. its mesogenic phase is an intermediate phase state between solid three-dimensional order and liquid irregular, and is an oriented ordered fluid. Among the biphenyl liquid crystal materials widely used at present, 4-cyanodiphenyl compounds such as 4-pentoxy-4'-cyanobiphenyl account for a considerable proportion. |
preparation | under the protection of nitrogen, 20mmol of 4-bromobenzonitrile, 0.1mmol of palladium acetate, 0.12mmol of Ph3P and 2mmol of zinc bromide are dissolved in 30ml of THF, then 50ml of Grignard reagent prepared from 20mmol of 4-pentoxybromobenzene is added dropwise, and then reacted at room temperature for 2 hours after dropping. After that, the reaction solution is cooled in an ice water bath, and then 50ml of 1% dilute brine solution is dripped. After the dripping is completed, it is stirred for 30 minutes to separate the organic phase. The aqueous phase is extracted twice with 50ml ethyl acetate, and the organic phase is combined. After washing twice with 50ml of water, the crude product is obtained by steaming off the solvent in a rotary evaporation instrument. The crude product was recrystallized with methanol and decolorized with activated carbon to obtain pure 4-pentoxy-4'-cyanobiphenyl. Yield: 48.7%. |
